The 7 Hills Running Club and The Woodlands Running Club (TWRC) will be going head to head at RTW #179 on June 9th. 7 Hills has 60 members that have committed to this event. We expect a very good turnout by TWRC. The competition is based on speed and participation. Walkers can gain points that could swing this event one way or the other. Everyone counts….which makes it fun.
In a previous post I mentioned that Jon “Blazeman” Blais passed away Sunday May 27th. Jon Blais...aka the Warrior Poet was the first individual with ALS to complete the Hawaii Ironman. He completed the race (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 run) in 16 hours and 30 minutes in October 2005. The ALS Spin-A-Thon we did in February with Kim Hager, Jon Walk and many friends was for the Blazeman Foundation.
In Kim’s message to her triathletes this week she wrote “Many of you know of my utmost respect and admiration for Jon Blais. In 2005 Jon's story was highlighted at the Hawaii Ironman and included on the 2005 Hawaii Ironman DVD. His goal was to raise awareness for ALS and bring attention to this devastating disease. His story touched me on several fronts...as an athlete I cannot imagine losing the ability to do so many things that I take for granted...running, walking, grabbing a water bottle, typing this email, etc., and as a parent I cannot imagine having to watch your child deteriorate from a healthy, thriving individual to one whose body basically shuts down. I encourage you to check out ALS Warrior Poet and War on ALS. The latter website has a short video clip on Jon Blais' triumphant finish at the 2005 Hawaii Ironman. Anytime I start feeling a little sorry for myself or I don't feel like heading out the door for that bike ride...I think about Jon”
I’ve posted the picture of Jon’s bike and bib number (from his website) at Hawaii Ironman. He was number 179 and the RTW event is # 179 next week. 7 Hills and TWRC have a similar attitude when it comes to running. I know that the spirit of our competition will honor Jon Blais.

Live…more than your neighbors.
Unleash yourself upon the world and go places.
Go now.
Giggle…no…laugh…no…
Stay out past dark and bark at the moon like the wild dog that you are.
Understand that this is not a dress rehearsal.
This is it…your life.
FACE YOUR FEARS AND LIVE YOUR DREAMS.
Take it all in.
Yes, every chance you get…come close.
And, by all means, whatever you do…get it on film.
-Jonathan Blais, aka ALS Warrior Poet
