Our Tuesday night track workouts are becoming the highlight of my week. The plan for the group of Luke’s & TNT runners (and a few guests that we really like) was a 1 mile warm-up then a 5 mile ( or as far as you can go in 40 minutes ) threshold run and then cool down. That’s 20 laps keeping a steady ”comfortably hard” pace for the whole duration. On paper it looks like it could be very tough to do…mostly mental as it is 20 laps and the scenery doesn't change. Step in Kim Hager who planned the schedule that includes last nights workout. She has this positive effect that energizes everyone around her. Her pre workout focus is on warm-up, then how fast to do each lap…..don’t start too fast…..maintain a steady pace throughout……this is threshold so it’s not easy……etc…etc…etc…. As our group starts everyone dials right into their pace and for the next 40 minutes it was pretty awesome to watch as everyone did a wonderful job. Super Coach Kim calling out splits which became increasingly difficult as the group spread out. I spot checked paces to help keep our runners from speeding up when a faster runner went by... but I was mostly a cheerleader along with TNT coach Dana-Sue Crews…..oh we did hand out water from our mock event aid station, complete with half filled paper cups so our runners could practice taking in water while running.
Here are some random thoughts from last night….
The Luke’s & TNT runners will do VERY well at Houston.
I know Kim reads this – you are officially now Super Coach
Was that Waverly Walk doing two miles in the outside lane?
How can you average 8:40/mile and consider yourself slow ?
There is no such thing as slow….just your pace what ever it is.
I’m fighting off a cold and I did see Dirt Runner 1-1/2 weeks ago – he is the carrier.
How much will Dana-Sue beat me by in Austin in February?
How much would Vic beat me by if I ran Houston?
Good thing I waited to sign up for Houston.
And….this morning the subject line of an e-mail to me reads “Your turn coach....” hmmm 73 days to Austin.

It's not me, my pine cones are full. You should go to the nearest aid station and see a volunteer for treatment.
I was told she did it in 27 minutes, which isn't bad for coming off being sick.
Glad she made it up there on her own (i.e. without Dad). That speaks volumes.
Coach. 454.97 meters per lap times 8 equals 3,639.76 meters which converts to 2.26 miles.
Something made me think about the fact that she actually did more than 2. As Jim said, "More better!"
