We are off to San Francisco for the Nike Woman's Marathon. Our Texas Gulf Coast Team should do well. I don't expect many fast times as the course is very difficult. Our Chicago runners will be setting all the PR's this weekend. Super Coach and all around great person Kim Hager sent a note to the runners with some good advice.
BE PREPARED TO FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE
That’s right…it’s a marathon…be prepared to feel some discomfort at some point during the race. This is why we train. Training prepares our body to physically handle the miles at a given pace. Training also helps to mentally prepare us to stick things out when we might not feel like it. Be tough.
EMBRACE EACH MOMENT
You will go through many emotions prior to and during the race. You will also experience many feelings throughout those miles. Embrace each and every one of those emotions. Relax. Do not be afraid of pain. You can handle it. Enjoy the unexpected bursts of energy and use them to your advantage. Yes, you do know why you are out there. Look at those around you and encourage each other along. They were placed along your path for a reason. And, as Jon Blais says, “Take it all in.”
CELEBRATE YOUR VICTORY
The self-satisfaction of knowing that you put forth your best effort on race day is priceless. Upon crossing that finish line, take a moment and reflect. Give thanks for what you have just accomplished and then rejoice with your family and friends!

First of all, Bill I didn't know that you had a blog page. More importantly I'm very glad that you were able to walk away under your own strength. Good luck with the insurance delagations and finding a new vehicle.
Jon
I think that first one about being prepared to feel uncomfortable is one that hits home with me. I still don't consider myself tough. I'm still probably too conservative as far as pushing myself beyond comfortable. The only time I've really felt uncomfortable but kept going is my mile time trial some weeks ago. No THAT was uncomfortable.
