Tuesday Track

I fully expected track to be rained out and if someone called I did say to not risk it and stay home. The storm hit at about 6:45pm. There was a small group of us there and we waited a few minutes to see how bad the weather would be. There was some wind and rain for about 15 minutes and it was over. Our small group would get a workout in.

After a warm-up most did 5 x 800 with 90 second recovery. The pace was set at your current 10k +10 seconds per mile. Should be a very aerobic level. Everyone did very well with the workout. The tough thing about this type of workout is that people want to do the 800’s faster and the tendency is to speed up. I probably said the words “slow down” more than anything else last night.

We had a few others doing separate workouts and they did great. Juliee completed her three week TIR recovery program perfectly and breezed through her workout. She’s ready to start working a little harder next week. The big news of the night was when Kim asked Dan Jordan (WoodlandsFit Blue/Green Coach) who was doing 2 mile repeats if he was planning on another 2 mile interval after he was done. He said no! Dan never says no. Dan never slows down, never cuts back, runs the Sunmart 50 miler, then a PR at Houston a month later, with mega miles in between. There is now hope for Dan to be super fast.

I was very distracted last night. I was in constant contact with my daughter from about 4:30pm on. My son-in-law, Chris, was involved in a car wreck about 4pm. There was some sort of robbery resulting in a high speed police chase. The car being chased ran into Chris’ truck. It’s a miracle he’s alive after seeing the pictures of his truck. My daughter more or less lied to me saying that he was fine, and that he would probably be released soon. We agreed that I would come to the hospital if he were still there at 8pm. The hospital is about 5 minutes away from where we workout. It was good I was there a little later as I became the second shift of family members waiting. Although if my daughter had told me how bad he looked I would have been there as soon as I could. He was released a little after midnight. He has some very bad cuts and bruises. Nothing broken but he’ll be pretty sore for a while. The driver of the car that hit him was also being treated in the same area….while wearing handcuffs and under police watch. That felt kind of weird.

For those reading this that attended the Light The Night “sing with the band” fundraiser last October…it’s that son-in-law..the good singer

Those track workouts always confuse me.
I really need to get some of those in.

Oh, goodness..Sending, speedy recovery wishes to your son in law. I am glad he was able to get discharged last night.

Oh gosh Bill. I am sorry to hear he was the one caught in the middle and suffered injury from it. I'm glad nothing was broken.

I just did a little deja vu there. Whew. I wouldn't wish a broken bone on anyone.

I'm glad he's okay; I'll bet all of you are a bit shaken up today from that.
