I received this note from one of the runners last night after track. “Bill, Thanks for stepping in and organizing us. You're the "father of Woodlands running." :) Actually I think Dan Green is the father of Woodlands running” but I’ll take the compliment. I had stepped in for Kim as her husband’s birthday took priority.
Everyone did great last night. Kim’s group had a pretty tough workout of mile repeats at VO2 effort. They looked really strong and are set up well for Houston. Our WoodlandsFit marathoners jogged for about 45 minutes as they’re coming off their 21 miler. Our WoodlandFit Half Marathoners, and marathoners who are doing their 21 miler this coming weekend did a short workout of 5 x 300 with a 100 recovery. Our half group still has two higher mileage weeks so we’re keeping the track sessions backed off a bit from this point forward.
Karen looked great last night. She’s one long run away from a well deserved taper and what could be a very good marathon effort in a few weeks. If any of her blogger teammates are reading this please keep her in your thoughts this weekend as she does her 21 miler. She’s done an amazing job with her training.
After the workout we talked a bit about the Texas Independence Relay. We will actually firm up our runner rotation and plan after the Houston Marathon. While most of the group at the track run on the Texian team, we had four different teams represented last night, Karen - Bloggers, Joe & Missy Martinez and Cherish Adams – Tejas Renegades, and Dan Jordan – team name TBA. I think that’s pretty cool.
