Texas Tough Throwdown

I have the utmost respect for all of the runners on Jon Walk's TIR team. Any trash talking here and in the future is in the spirit of fun and hopefully will motivate us all to be race ready for a great event in March.

I think Jon & I are a lot alike in that we both over commit to help others. My friend Jim Braden said earlier this year “to get something done, give it to a busy person” This rings true in both of us. Over the next 8 months we will both be organizing & planning for the best approach to the relay and ways to beat each other. The end result will be a very close finish and a lot of fun had by all.

Here is a very brief comparison of the two teams
We, the Texian Road Warriors, have two very fast runners (one is high risk as he’s known for getting lost occasionally). We have one more who is becoming very fast through her training. The rest of the team is a little slower than the average blogger team runner so we actually match up well.

Both teams have the same spirit…we do want to do well but at the same time we want to enjoy and have fun.

The wild cards that could sway the outcome are the two organizers…Jon & myself. Jon will have no trouble being ready. He’ll probably do 30 races between now and event weekend. I, on the other hand, can’t seem to get out of my own way. Even so….at the track last night Jon had some very nice splits for his 400’s at 2:02, 2:04, 2:09 & 2:10....but I know that if I had run them I would have been slightly under 2 minutes for all of them. Does that matter? Probably not as there is little difference between a 2:02 and a 1:59. But the 3 seconds/400 is 12 seconds/mile which could sway the relay…..I actually need to be able to run a mile first before I can say that.

Along those lines I will start putting a summary of my weekly workouts on the blog to strike fear into the hearts of the blogger team. (It might be the fear of “look what happens when you only coach and don’t run much”.)

Other TIR teams
TWRC - name TBA – Gary Van Kuiken – don’t know who’s on the team – they could be very fast

TWRC –name TBA - Debbie Tripp – don’t care how fast they are – we’ll crush them
