What I’ve done in the process is not allow myself any time to keep my blog going. My new plan is to set aside at least 1-day a week to keep the blog going. My last real post was December 2009. Wow does time fly.
Not a lot has changed since then. I’m still very active in The Woodlands Running Club, still volunteer quite a bit, coach runners, and have false start after false start with my own training.
Something happened a couple months ago. I can’t tell you why it happened…it just did. I was at my local track in Spring and after a typical poor workout (poor in the sense that I used to jog laps at a 7:00 pace, and run mile repeats under 6:00) I was at peace with my walk/slow jog effort. I didn’t beat myself up, (typically followed by 2-3 weeks of no activity). I was glad to be alive, to be at the track, and working out…at whatever pace.
The last few months have been pretty busy but I’ve managed to find the time 2-3 times per week to make my way to the track and get in a few miles, still mostly walking with an occasional 100-200 yard jog. It’s coming along slow….but it’s coming along and that’s more than it’s been.
All this has led up to my first “race” finish in a little over three years. Saturday, June 18th Adrienne Langelier, Jon Walk and I travelled to Brewton, Alabama to support a fundraiser for the W.S.Neal High School Track Team. You can read about the great work Rebecca Massie and Adrienne combined for here and here.
Rebecca could have used a sundial to time me. I didn’t wear a watch, didn’t look at the finish clock. I walked probably 90% of the 5K (9-hours in a back seat of a midsize car is hell on the legs) and didn’t care. I had fun, I have a finish, and I have something other than a DNS to build on.

Life is good!

Absolutely awesome! I was and am still super-happy for you. Proud to call you "coach"!
Onward!! :)
I struggled with a past that overshadowed my much more modest present for years before I truly reconciled it with myself.
I am very proud of you taking the next step. Here's wishing you many more races in your future!
Congratulations on racing again. Anytime you want to run the Sunday Night 5K, I will direct it for you. Don't stop now.
