Training Begins Again

In my weekly note to WoodlandsFit I used an essay that Kim Hager wrote a couple years ago that starts with a quote from John Wooden - "The road to achievement is usually bumpy and long, but you do not give up. You may have setbacks. You may have to start over. You may have to change your method. You may have to go around, or over, or under. You may have to back up and get another start. But you do not quit. You stay the course."

While preparing for Hurricane Ike I lost a pushing contest with a file cabinet and came up pretty lame (my left knee). I was actually thinking the night of the storm that if I need to run for cover I won't survive as I couldn't get around very well. It's funny how adrenaline works as I did move pretty quickly when the tree hit the house we were in that night. In the weeks after the storm I kept aggravating my knee by tarping roofs, carrying sections of the now cut down pine trees to the road and various other clean up duties.

This past Sunday, with dragging the club tent in the morning a pretty good distance and then standing around for several hours at Light The Night that evening, my knee came up very sore the next morning. Even at our track workout Tuesday I was having trouble hiding a limp from the group.

I don't know what happened Wednesday but in a 24 hour period I was noticeably much better and was even able to get in a short workout at Twin Creeks on their new resurfaced track last night.....and I'm still able to walk today!
