CB&I TRI Countdown

I wish everyone could see the amount of work that goes into putting on the CB&I triathlon. Race directors Willie Fowlkes and Meghan Sturrock, with the help of some very talented race committee members will be putting on another first class event this weekend. The attention to detail is what drives the work exponentially. The end result will be a great experience for everyone from beginners to pros.

Our run course crew has been together now for all five events. Kim Hager is over the complete run course. We break the run down into thirds and this year my group will have Lake Woodlands from the transition run exit to Grogan’s Mill (a little over ½ mile) and the return to the finish from Grogan’s Mill, the last ½ mile. TWRC member and Ultrarunner Les Ellsworth will head up the crew along Grogan’s Mill, and TWRC Club Coach Dan Green will have his crew manning a new section along Eastshore Drive.

We have some new volunteers helping this year from our Luke’s program,WoodlandsFit, TWRC,and also some old and some new friends. Thank you to everyone helping this year!

One of the cool things that happens every year is that some of the volunteers will be motivated to do a triathlon after cheering for the participants. While the triathlon is not easy by any stretch of the imagination, it’s very doable and a lot of fun. While our volunteer crew will smile and encourage the participants along the run course, there will also be some inspiration from the participants to the volunteers who will end the day feeling good about helping and saying…”hey, I can do that”.

Saturday will be fun.
