April 28 - May 4

Since the TIR weekend each week has been packed with activities and meetings. After this past weekend life gets much more normal until the middle of September when the push begins for Ten for Texas and Light The Night.

Very little running this week

Monday – No run – Light The Night Meeting at 6:00pm
Tuesday – No run - Beat Track Workout 6:45pm – timer only
Wednesday – Easy 2 miles after work
Thursday – No run – 6:00pm - Oilfield Charity Cook-off
Friday – No run – 12-3pm - Oilfield Charity Cook-off, then 3:45pm help organize CB&I Volunteer equipment – Northshore Park
Saturday – 4:30am – walk through of the run course for CB&I. 6:15am volunteers arrive and we worked the event until about 11am. It was a great group of volunteers this year. Viv was new in our group. She’s pretty cool. After CB&I we had a WoodlandsFit coaches seminar. CB&I volunteers and Fit coaches Liz Berry, Kim Hager and myself did a sleep deprived version of our topics. Other Fit coaches Rich Cooper, Dan Jordan, and Debbie Bower also did presentations. It was a good meeting/seminar, but I was ready for some sleep when I got home.
Sunday – Not much in the morning…slept in, then church, then a few tasks around the house. I headed up to The Woodlands at 3:30pm with my bike to ride along side Rick Cook who was attempting a 62 mile training run in preparation for the Western States 100 mile run in June. Ultrarunner John Opalko was also running the 100K with Rick in his preparation for the Ultracentric 24 Hour Run in Grapevine in November. Rick and John had several pacers during the day including, Karen Felicidario, Holden Choi, Katy Lampson, Pete McNamara and Jon Walk.

When I arrived at Rick’s house/aid station they were calling it quits for the day. They “only” did a 43 mile run! Rick and John are of a little different mindset than most. We visited for a while. Karen and Jon Walk were there so the company was pretty darn good. I left around 5:30 and met my Sunday evening training buddy at Twin Creeks Middle School at 6:30pm and we spun the track for an hour.

The month of May brings a lot less meetings/activities and much more time to train.

The first time Kim saw my bike she called it a collectors item. (made me feel somewhat old) She also said that if I do a triathlon it will most likely get stolen. It's a very cool Dave Scott edition Centurion with custom aero bars. It's seen a few triathlons and many century rides. My skills in order of ability....biker, runner, swimmer.

And an adventure race.

Where do we need to go for costumes?

And will we be allowed to get them wet?

Wonder what the elderly ladies at the YMCA swimming pool will think when they see two guys peel out of their costumes? It might, "Esther, swim darling, swim!"
