Track Workout
It was a beautiful spring evening. I got to the track early and put in a walk/jog 2 miles before anyone arrived. Still very tight and feeling it around my knees. It is improving.
Our group was a little smaller than it’s been. Maybe it’s spring break or maybe it was the long cruise intervals (mile repeats at 10k pace +10-20 seconds with a 200-meter recovery). We still had about 30 for the workout. The sprint triathletes and quickbeat runners would do 2-3 repeats, Olympic distance would do 3-5. Half Ironman would do 5-6. Our new runners would do 8 x 300, with a 100 recovery at an aerobic effort level. Everyone did great with the workouts. Gena (standing in for Kim) was fantastic coaching the triathletes and Liz & Dave were equally impressive leading the quickbeat runners. We're a pretty good team.
What’s been really fun to watch for the last several months is that everyone is actually training in or close to the proper effort levels or heart rate zones during the workouts. There hasn’t been any racing going on during the intervals, which is a wonderful thing.
TIR 2009
We haven’t even planned our post event get together yet and I’m talking about next year already. Early registration opens April 1 for returning teams. I will have the Texian Road Warriors entered for next year during early registration. I will also request the same number that we wore this year. I mentioned at the track last night that I really hope to keep the exact same team. That’s what I’m planning for. If the tri van chooses to set up a second team we’ll have some extra fun with next years throwdown. If we are split…. Jon and I have a little challenge at the San Antonio Marathon in November. Winner gets first pick for a very good runner from Huntsville (not Adrienne).
