We're Ready

For the first time in years I can't make it to the Expo on the Friday before the marathon and I'll also be missing the TIR Spaghetti get together tonight with Jon, Joy, Jay and a few from our relay teams as I have grandbaby (Elle) duty. She's super cute and worth missing the meal though. One note about Elle, her birthday is April 3 but the big first birthday party will be April 5 in Bellaire...the same day as the Trolley Run. I'll have to check to see if they allow baby joggers.

Last night we had our WoodlandsFit pasta dinner. We had a good turnout and everyone is ready to go for the weekend. I love the atmosphere the two or three days before a big race. With the good weather forecast there's even a little more excitement. Last night, as I listened to the program organizer and watched the slide show, I couldn’t help but think how lucky I am to be able to share in the experiences everyone will have this weekend. We all start out on this journey to get in shape and to complete a tough endurance event. We end up as friends and when it’s time to run the tough endurance event it’s somehow changed to a big celebration of believing in yourself and each other. I am very fortunate to be able to share this with everyone and have all our participants, coaches and friends, past and present, to thank for being such great inspirations to me and to each other.

Saturday night after the expo I’m invited to be a guest at the TNT pasta party. It’ll be a little different than years past with no work responsibilities. I’ll be the guest of Bill and Dana-Sue Crews. Bill will talk about his battle with cancer which is a message of faith, love and hope. I’ll meet and hear his doctor for the first time ever, the man who saved Bill’s life. I’ll see some old friends and again think about how lucky I’ve been to be a part of their lives.

It’s going to be a great weekend and I have this feeling that 2008 is going to be a great year.
