Tuesday Night Track

I always look forward to Tuesday nights. I love to coach but more than that I really treasure the friendships. Tuesday night is about working a little harder with some pace work (I don’t like to call it speed work) but it’s more about getting to know and encourage each other. Little things like when I remind George Roffe about really taking it easy because he’s coming off a 21 mile run …the group all applauds him for running the 21 miler. The applause is sincere and it’s a nice moment. Our group is about the most uplifting group I have ever been around.

As reported on Jon Walk’s blog, Kim Hager’s new triathlon group was there for a little head start program. The program starts in June and she’s running a “bridge” program for the next 4 weeks. We also had our Beat runners and a few friends..... so…..Tri Sprint, Tri Olympic, Luke’s Beat, and a couple marathoners made for fun night at the track. Kim was a great representative for Timex with three watches going and with my one watch (timing two groups at a time) we kept up with all that was going on. (Photo - Team Timex keeps time)

Rick is a little on edge as the new arrival in his home might be a little sooner than June. His…”I’ll just pace the 2 min, 400 group” turned into blasting around the track in about 1:30 with Dave Smart. ( see Photo )

The Luke’s Beat runners are all setting up for event # 2 of the Montgomery County Challenge, David’s Dream Run 5K in The Woodlands this Saturday. The Challenge has made May a fun month of events….not just training. It’s also lending some added support to some local charities. It’s a win win.
