Tuesday Night Track

Jon Walk's report about tonight, as always, is world class. We're setting up for the Rise Run 5K this weekend so it was a very short, somewhat easy workout and a lot of social time after. We got to hear all about Rick's most recent DNF in Arkansas and got the chance to visit with a lot of good friends.

So...here is my take.....

I didn't warm up enough...maybe 300 yards total and I really need a good 20 minutes before an interval workout. I did think I could do the 4 x 400 and I was thinking that I would gradually get faster running with someone different each lap. That plan didn't work out too well when Jon was just a few feet in front of me and not really pulling away. The "race" was on. We really didn't race all out but I was not going to let him be too far ahead. First lap - Jon 1:49, Bill 1:51.

Now remember...I did not warm up too much and didn't stretch so I did sit out interval 2.

For number three it was the same plan...stay with Jon.... and for some reason I was a little bit ahead of him. I knew he was waiting for the last curve to make a push and sure enough I could hear him getting closer and then as he said in his report Ron Longtin flew by me, then Jon flew by me and I crawled on in at 1:59...Jon was 1:54. Ron is beginning his second year of training and originally started as a walker. He did the RTW 5K last week in 29 minutes. He's a young 61. He's an amazing guy. I did hear my good friend Kim Hager yelling for both Jon & Ron to beat me.

Of course I sit out number 4 and take some ribbing from Rick Cook and Cathy Steele but it's all right because slacker Bill was at 2:17 for 400's two weeks ago and the 1:51 will soon be 1:41...then 1:31. I hope Jon is right along side me.

Update - I hope Rick Cook puts an account on his blog of his run at the Ouachita Trail 50 this past weekend. Rick brought his new anchor Wrong Way Andrew Perry with him. Rick should actually go on a speaking circut. We could listen to him for hours.
