October has been a busy month with the 10-4-TX group finishing on Oct 14, our San Francisco & Chicago groups finishing up Oct 22, and our Light The Night Walk last night, Oct 29. I volunteer for a couple of events a year as I like to give back to the running community that has given so much to me. I had the privilege to be on the planning committee for The Woodlands version of the Leukemia Society’s Light the Night Walk held at Market Street. My responsibility was organizing the walk route. We expected 350 walkers…..all I know is we filled 800 balloons (cancer survivors carry white illuminated balloons, supporters, friends and family carry red illuminated balloons) I’m guessing we had near 800 people which made for a few last minute changes like completely shutting down Lake Woodlands instead of just one lane. The event was a great success. Last year we raised 19,000.00. This years event tallied 67,000.00 with pledges still coming in. Many thanks to the route volunteer crew of Debbie Tripp, Kerri Snyder, Maggie Warner, Jon Walk, Deli Akers, Christy Shell, Julie & Lauren West, Kim Boesen, Tara Wright & the WoodsEdge Church youth group, and the awesome help from Montgomery County Constable George Biernesser.
I did mention to Jon that this would be his easiest volunteer job ever…..oh….and then he proceeded to help put out two miles of cones jogging along side a truck moving slightly faster than you can run with a cone in your hand. So much for easy. Jon…you were a GREAT help last night….having very experienced runners on each corner (Kerri, Maggie, Debbie, Jon) takes all the worry out of an event like this. We had a great team last night.

I noticed that there is a Lee Harlicker in your club. As there are not may Harlickers out of Minnesota, I was curious whether or not there was a relation. There is a Harlicker in League City, TX as well. I am in Idaho.
I will ask.
